Life Sentences Handed Down to Callaway Man in Child Sexual Assault Case

After authorities claimed that a Callaway man had sexually abused a kid, the man was sentenced to life in prison.

Mark Jackson Jr., 29, was found guilty on Wednesday of lewd or lascivious molestation and sexual battery of a person under the age of twelve, according to the State Attorney’s Office.

On both counts, Judge Register gave the defendant a life sentence in prison. As to the news release, the judge directed that the sentences be served either one after the other or consecutively.

Prosecutor Overstreet called six witnesses, including the victim, who was four years old at the time of the incident, during the trial. Officials stated that evidence was provided to show the defendant had abused and violated the youngster sexually.

Investigators from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office reported that they spoke with Jackson Jr. following the victim’s disclosure of the incident to a Department of Children and Families Investigator.

According to officials, Jackson Jr. acknowledged having sex while being questioned, and he was then brought into custody. The jury deliberated for ninety minutes before rendering a decision, capping a two-day trial. Jackson Jr. was likewise labeled as a sexual predator by Judge Register.
