A man was arrested for a dine-and-dash incident at Denny’s restaurant in Margate. It was later discovered that he had an outstanding warrant for a violent assault and robbery at a McDonald’s earlier this year.
On July 2, the Margate Police responded to a report of a dine-and-dash at the Denny’s located at 650 North State Road 7. The restaurant staff informed the officers that a man, identified as Terrance Tyrann Thorpe, 21, from Fort Lauderdale, and another unidentified customer had left without paying their bill of $59.09.
The manager of Denny’s provided a description of Thorpe and the second customer, which helped the officers locate and arrest Thorpe shortly afterward in the vicinity of the 1000 block of North State Road 7.
During the arrest, a routine background check revealed that Thorpe had an outstanding warrant for his involvement in a violent assault and robbery that occurred at a McDonald’s on April 1. McDonald’s is located at 1201 State Highway 84 in Fort Lauderdale.
According to the warrant issued by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, Thorpe entered the McDonald’s wearing a black balaclava-style mask and got into a verbal altercation with an employee when he found out that mobile orders were no longer accepted.
The victim, an employee of McDonald’s, stated that Thorpe jumped over the service counter, entered the employee-only kitchen area, and tackled them to the ground. Thorpe then proceeded to repeatedly punch the victim in the face with closed fists.
Medical records confirm that the victim suffered lacerations and bruises on the lower forehead and around the eyes as a result of the assault. The entire incident was captured by the surveillance cameras in the restaurant.
Thorpe was taken into custody and transported to Broward County Jail. He now faces charges related to both incidents, including first-degree felony burglary with assault.
