GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Officers from the Gainesville Police Department stopped a Mexican man they say was being paid to drive 14 people from Arizona to South Florida.
On Tuesday, Gainesville Highway Enforcement Team police stopped Adan Hernandez, 28, because he was going too fast and switching lanes.
Officers say that when the car stopped, several people got out of the trunk.
Police say the car smelled bad and didn’t have any cleaning items.
Hernandez didn’t have a license to drive in the U.S., so he gave the cops an ID from Mexico.
Officers with the task force say Hernandez told them he was just the driver.
Officers did more research and found out that Hernandez was getting paid to drive 14 people from Arizona to South Florida.
At the time, there were only five people on board. The people who were hurt told the cops that they would be sold for $5,000.
Soon after, people from the Border Patrol and Homeland Security came to the spot to finish the probe.
Hernandez was charged with selling people and put in the Alachua County Jail.
