Man in Custody for Allegedly Pistol-Whipping and Forcing Bank Transfer

An 18-year-old from South Florida was taken into custody for allegedly hitting a woman with a pistol and making her transfer $2,500 to his bank account.

The incident occurred when the victim visited a friend’s place near Northwest 67th Street in Miami’s Little Haiti area on May 28th. She was there to give $400 that she owed her friend.

Inside the residence, the woman found her friend along with five other men, including 18-year-old Ronald Ward Jr. who was standing outside.

After giving her friend the money, she went back to her car. Ward then came up to her, held her face, and tried to take her purse.

A struggle ensued, during which Ward pulled out a gun and hit the victim while demanding, “Give me the purse.”

The victim let him take her purse, but Ward took her phone and instructed her to transfer $2,500 from her bank account to his.

After the transfer, Ward allegedly smashed the victim’s phone.

When the police arrived, the victim identified Ward as the suspect from a photo lineup.

On Tuesday, detectives found Ward and brought him in for questioning at the Miami Police Department’s robbery unit. During the interview, Ward claimed he had no knowledge of the robbery, but he was arrested for armed robbery with a deadly weapon.

Currently, he is held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
