WPBN:In the beginning of this year, a man from Massachusetts entered a guilty plea to the charge of administering fentanyl to his dog before he stabbed the animal to death.
After entering a guilty plea to two counts of animal cruelty and witness intimidation, Jonathan Paluzzi, 45, of Kingston, was sentenced to five to seven years in state prison, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, which announced the punishment on Friday.
On January 31, Paluzzi was taken into custody following a call to 911 that was placed to his apartment on Kingston Collection Way. A person who called in reported hearing sounds such as shuffling and a dog whining, which were then followed by quiet.
The lifeless body of Paluzzi’s dog, Brutus, a bull-terrier mix weighing sixty pounds, was discovered by the police with stab wounds. It was first alleged that Paluzzi had been cruel to animals and had been in possession of a Class A narcotic.
According to the authorities, Paluzzi attempted to have Brutus put to sleep by a veterinarian; however, the animal care center declined to accommodate his request because the dog was in good health.
After that, he attempted to poison Brutus by administering fentanyl to him. The investigators stated that Paluzzi fatally stabbed the dog with a set of bent grill prongs after this method was also unsuccessful in killing the dog.
In the aftermath of Paluzzi’s arrest, his parents revealed that he had a deep affection for Brutus and had attempted to relinquish the animal in order to enroll in rehabilitation.

According to Paul Paluzzi, who spoke about his son and Brutus on Tuesday, “They were joined at the hip for life.” There were times when my son would leave the house to go out, smoke, or set his dog food down, and he would wait until John returned before he would touch it again.
Janice Paluzzi, his mother, stated that her son had the intention of overcoming his addiction to drugs, but eventually came to the realization that his parents were unable to take care of the dog on their own.
“‘I’m sick and tired of getting high, taking advantage of you guys, and feeling like this,’ and he said, ‘So I’ll have to put Brutus down,'” she stated.
At the time of the animal’s death, Paluzzi was reportedly under the influence of fentanyl, and his parents are praying that he is able to receive the necessary assistance.
