Authorities reported on Wednesday that six members of two families were killed in Guanajuato, a violent state in Mexico. This is at least the third family slaughter in the nation since last month.
The violence that is occurring in Guanajuato and other areas where drug gangs are engaged in violent territorial wars is killing more and more women, children, and entire families.
Six people were killed in the Yuriria hamlet in Guanajuato, including a mother and an adolescent kid. Three deceased belonged to one household and three to another.
María De Los Ángeles López, the mayor of Yuriria, stated that the victims were shot and killed while they were employed at a construction site.
The prosecutor’s office in Guanajuato stated that while it is looking into the killings, no suspects have been taken into custody yet.
López described Yuriria as a tranquil location where people know those who were killed and everyone here knows each other.
Guanajuato has experienced more homicides than any other Mexican state for a lot of years. There, the Jalisco cartel is battling local gangs for control of the agricultural and industrial center.
About 60 more police officers were shot and killed in Guanajuato in 2023 than in the entire country.

The US State Department advises Americans to think twice before visiting Guanajuato. The government issues a travel recommendation, saying, “Of particular concern is the high number of murders in the southern region of the state associated with cartel-related violence.”
According to Mexican security researcher David Saucedo, there is continuous cartel activity in the municipalities south of Guanajuato that border the state of Michoacan.
“The attack on complete families is with the goal of dispersing rival cartel structures,” he stated. “The idea is that they not only retaliate against their rivals but also against their families.”
A infant and a toddler were among the six members of the same family that were killed in Guanajuato last month. According to the authorities, a family was shooting at when armed intruders broke into their home in Leon.
Later in June, gunmen in the border state of Chiapas, in southern Mexico, slaughtered another family of six, including three children.
