Miami Resident Faces Charges for Trying to Stab Victim with Broken Glass

MIAMI – On Monday, a man was arrested by Miami police, three months after allegedly attempting to stab another man with a broken glass bottle.

The incident took place on March 6, around 1:30 p.m., inside a store at the Grand Avenue Shopping Center on Grand Avenue and Plaza Street.

According to the arrest report, Douglas Wilcox, aged 57, is now facing a charge of aggravated battery with great bodily harm.

Police were notified of a fight between two men and promptly dispatched to the plaza. Upon arrival, investigators interviewed the victim, who stated that Wilcox approached him with a stick and tried to strike him.

The victim informed the police that Wilcox accused him of stealing cigars, an allegation he denied. In self-defense, the victim managed to disarm Wilcox and struck him with a punch.

Detectives revealed that Wilcox then picked up a broken glass bottle and attempted to stab the victim. The victim, in turn, grabbed the bottle, resulting in lacerations to his right hand and left arm.

He was subsequently taken to HCA Florida Mercy Hospital for medical treatment.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the surveillance camera in the store was not functioning, as confirmed by the store owner.

Wilcox was arrested for two outstanding warrants and was subsequently transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he is being held without bail.
