Miracle at the Morgue: Woman Found Breathing at Funeral Home

Miracle at the Morgue Woman Found Breathing at Funeral Home

Following her transfer to a funeral home, a 74-year-old lady who was thought to have passed away while receiving hospice care was discovered to be breathing, according to Nebraskan officials on Monday.

The woman was taken to the Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln on Monday morning, from a nursing home where she had been pronounced deceased at approximately 9:44 a.m. local time, as stated by the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Lancaster County Chief Deputy Ben Houchin, employees of the funeral home “instantly called 911” at approximately 11:44 a.m. when they saw the woman was breathing. This prompted authorities to go to the scene.

After doing CPR on the woman, who was later identified by the police as Constance Glantz of Lincoln, funeral home employees took her to a nearby hospital, where Houchin claimed she is still alive. He stated her family has been alerted.

Houchin stated, “It’s a very unusual case,” on Monday at a press briefing. “Been doing this 31 years and nothing like this has ever gotten to this point before.”

After the woman was pronounced dead, the nursing home did not need to notify the coroner or local authorities because this was a case where a death was expected and there was nothing unusual about her alleged death, according to Houchin.

According to Houchin, the sheriff’s office is conducting an investigation and no criminal charges are pending.

“We have not been able to find any criminal intent by the nursing home but the investigation is ongoing,” Houchin stated.
