A guy from northwest Iowa who vanished last fall has reportedly been found dead, according to his relatives. On November 21, 2023, David Schultz, 53, was initially reported missing by his spouse.
Sarah, Schultz’s wife, reports that the Sac County Sheriff’s Office was able to identify her husband based on the boots he was wearing when his body was discovered in a farmer’s field.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations reports that the body was found on Wednesday just before 2:00 p.m. The location of Schultz’s semi-truck on the day he vanished was close to where the body was discovered.
For an autopsy, the remains are being taken to the Office of the State Medical Examiner in Iowa. There are no other details available.
On November 20, about 7 p.m., Schultz departed his Wall Lake residence. He went to an Eagle Grove area hog confinement to pick up a load of hogs. Around 10:50 p.m., he departed.
Shultz is seen on video footage on Nov. 20 at approximately 11:15 p.m. at a truck stop. His semi-truck was captured on camera by the Iowa Department of Transportation traveling westward after it left the truck stop.
Data from Schultz’s phone indicates that it traveled to the crossroads of D-15 and N-14, which is where the semi-truck was discovered. Information points to the semi-truck possibly being there since Nov. 21 at 12:40 a.m.
Schultz failed to deliver his pig load at the Wieckman hog purchase station in Sac City on November 21, the morning of the 21st. When Sarah Schultz discovered her husband David Schultz had not arrived at Wieckman’s that afternoon, she filed a missing person’s report.

An employee of Sac County Secondary Road stated that a semi-truck had remained at the D-15 and N-14 crossing since the wee hours of the morning. Deputies on the scene identified the semi-truck as Schultz’s. Inside were his wallet and phone.
In a crossroads close to Sac City, his mobile phone and wallet were discovered inside his semi-truck carrying a cargo of pigs.
A volunteer search was arranged by the Louisiana-based search and rescue organization United Cajun Navy. Over 200 people took part in the first search, which encompassed over 100,000 acres.
Another missing man, 54-year-old Calhoun County resident Mark Riesberg, was discovered dead in his car during the search.
Before Schultz’s body was discovered, a reward for information leading to his disappearance that started at $2,000 was escalated multiple times to about $30,000.
