The remains of a man who went missing late last year were recently found in the chimney of a Georgia residence, officials confirmed on Monday.
The discovery of the victim, identified as 43-year-old Anthony Rumplik, occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, as reported by Macon-Bibb Coroner Leon Jones to USA TODAY.
Rumplik had been reported missing by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office on January 1, four days after his family’s last contact with him. According to officials, Rumplik’s family had mentioned his diagnosis of schizophrenia and renal failure.
His roommate found Rumplik in a residence in Macon, located just over 80 miles southeast of Atlanta, with the body lodged inside the chimney, according to Jones.
“The Macon County Fire Department had to take the chimney apart to get him out,” Jones stated on Monday.
As the investigation unfolds, an autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause and manner of Rumplik’s death. The circumstances leading to his presence in the chimney remain unknown at this time.
