A 41-year-old Missourian man is now accused of killing a lady who could testify against him and of keeping her captive in an improvised basement dungeon where he sexually and physically abused her on several occasions.
Zachary Thompson, the prosecuting attorney for Clay County, stated on Tuesday that Timothy Haslett, Jr. has been indicted by a grand jury on one count of felony first-degree murder in the death of 36-year-old Jaynie Crosdale, whose body was discovered by kayakers on the Missouri River.
When officials initially carried out a search warrant on Crosdale’s Excelsior Springs house about two years ago, they found blue barrels resembling the one in which his corpse was placed. Additionally, evidence linking Haslett’s residence to Crosdale was discovered by the authorities.
“Ms. Crosdale appears on a still image taken from Mr. Haslett’s electronic device showing her inside his basement,” Thompson stated. “An SD card depicting individuals connected to Ms. Crosdale was found inside his house. He made statements to the surviving victim that he had taken somebody else’s life.”
According to Thompson, Haslett “knowingly caused the death” of Crosdale “by an act of homicidal violence” between June and October of 2022. Haslett had his bond increased from $3 million to $5 million in response to the most recent charge.
According to Kansas City Fox station WDAF, police had been looking for Crosdale since January 2023 in the hopes that he may tell them information about Haslett.
The inquiry into Haslett started on October 7, 2022, when a 22-year-old Black female, known as “T.J.” in court records, showed up at Haslett’s neighbor’s house while sporting a homemade metal shock collar with a padlock, duct tape around her neck, and ligature marks on her wrists and ankles.
After being detained against her will for more than a month, T.J. informed the homeowner.
T.J. reported to the authorities The affidavit stated that Haslett had picked her up in Kansas City one month prior and had kept her in a small room in the basement he had constructed.

“He kept her restrained in handcuffs on her wrists and ankles. She was able to get free when he left to take his child to school,” prosecutors stated.
According to the affidavit, the woman gave investigators a tour of the home where she had been detained and claimed that the suspect had sexually assaulted her several times while she was in handcuffs.
Authorities were informed by the victim that Haslett boasted about killing two other Black women while she was held captive. According to The Washington Post, Haslett would frequently make misogynistic and racial remarks on the internet.
Following Haslett’s arrest on unrelated animal control charges, a judge granted a search warrant for Haslett’s residence. Numerous guns were located by the police, along with the area in the basement that the victim had described.
