Drivers in Florida are finally able to view the designs for the new specialty plates that are available after months of waiting. HB 403, which went into force at the beginning of this month, is responsible for the plates.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is being directed under the new law to create more specialty license plates, such as ones that are based on locations like Margaritaville, The Villages, and Universal Orlando.
Each of these new plates has a specific organization linked to it that will receive a portion of the sales proceeds.
Each of these new plates costs $33, and pre-sale vouchers are currently available for all of them. Before the plates can be distributed, 3,000 presale vouchers must be received.
But the plates’ designs have now been made public, giving drivers in Florida a preview of what to expect.
Although the designs have not yet been made public, there are also pre-sale coupons for customized plates based on United Service Organizations and Universal Orlando Resort.
Before the license plate is made, each plate has up to two years to sell 3,000 coupons. The corresponding specialty plate will be deauthorized, which means it won’t be made, if the pre-sale time concludes without an organization meeting that goal.

Anyone who purchased a pre-sale voucher for the plate may then request a refund. According to FLHSMV data as of Tuesday, each plate had the following number of presales:
Specialty Plate | Pre-Sales | Number of pre-sales still needed |
Margaritaville | 146 | 2,854 |
The Villages: Dreams Come True | 100 | 2,900 |
Cure Diabetes | 10 | 2,990 |
Universal Orlando Resort | 1 | 2,999 |
Addiction: Reverse the Stigma | 1 | 2,999 |
The local tax collector’s office is where drivers can buy presale vouchers for these plates. Drivers must provide their license plate number (or the recipient’s if the voucher is being sent as a gift) in order to complete the online process.
