Niece and 3 Nephews Die in Crash After Uncle Takes Photo at 'Florida Welcomes You' Sign

In order to take pictures of the “Florida Welcomes You” sign, a guy from New York allegedly killed his niece and three nephews by slowing down his car in the middle of a highway.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 25-year-old Marvin Redondo-Funes is accused of four charges of aggravated child killing and driving with a suspended or revoked license that results in significant bodily harm.

A criminal complaint alleges that Redondo-Funes flew to Florida in July 2023 with his fiancée and the four children from New York. Around four in the morning on July 1, Redondo-Funes was on Interstate 95 near the Georgia-Florida line.

When he and the party approached the “Florida Welcomes You” sign, Redondo-Funes allegedly slowed the automobile to barely one or two miles per hour so he could take a picture.

The driver behind them failed to notice him brake and collided with the back of Redondo-Funes’ vehicle, according to FHP officers. The speed limit on the roadway is 70 mph, and the minimum speed is 40 mph.

The four children traveling with Redondo-Funes reportedly occupied the back seat, which was designed to hold just three people. Troopers also reported that three of the children were not wearing seatbelts.

Paramedics on the scene pronounced three of the children dead, and one was transported to the hospital. Doctors pronounced the child dead two days after the collision. The report no longer includes the names of the children.

Troopers said that Redondo-Funes admitted to driving the car.

According to the police, his license was suspended by a court decision. Neither he nor his girlfriend suffered any significant injuries. And there was no injury to the other driver. The children were 10, 12, and two 14-year-olds, according to a GoFundMe website. They went to Miami.
