North Alabama Organization Delivers Propane to NC in Aftermath of Hurricane Helene

WPBN: Relief efforts in the Tennessee Valley continue three months after Hurricane Helene devastated eastern Tennessee and western North Carolina.

As winter descends on the Tarheel state, Johnny Maxwell, pastor of Decatur’s Nature Trail Church, rallied church leaders from over North Alabama to assist in planning the ongoing relief operations.

According to Maxwell, who often transports supplies to North Carolina, propane is currently the most urgent need.

“Since people are still living in tents, quite a bit and campers, they are going through lots of propane, we’ve carried several hundred canisters of propane up there, I don’t even know how many heaters, let’s just say 100-150 heaters,” Maxwell stated. “We’ve also carried the hose adapters so they can hook those heaters up to 20-pound cylinders but yeah the needs still there.”

He remarked that he doesn’t want people to forget the people of North Carolina and that the destruction is unimaginable.

Prior to helping to restore homes and infrastructure, Maxwell intends to keep providing heat assistance to individuals throughout the winter.

“If you just think about it if you lost everything you had and you had no money, you had no identity, you had no home, nothing, what would you do?” Maxwell stated. “That’s what we are trying to do is at least help them get back on their feet.”

A number of churches are banding together to carry on the relief work, including Nature Trail Church. For assistance with this group, call the church at (256)-686-1300.
