Marion Police Department officers responded to a report of gunshots around 1:30 p.m. Although they couldn’t locate the suspect initially, they did receive a description.

An inquiry is ongoing following a fatal shooting by the police in Marion on Saturday afternoon.

Shortly thereafter, they found a man who matched the description and was armed with a handgun. This individual was identified as Casey J. Barlow, 29 years old and from Marion.

Barlow fled from the officers but stopped after a few blocks. He complied with the order to drop his gun but did not cooperate when they attempted to arrest him. At this point, an officer decided to use a taser.

During this interaction, Barlow produced a second handgun and reportedly aimed it at the officers. The officers from the Marion Police Department then discharged their firearms, shooting Barlow at least once.

Barlow was transported to the hospital, where he later passed away. No officers sustained injuries during the incident.

The Indiana State Police are conducting an investigation into the shooting and will present their findings to the Grant County Prosecutor’s Office for evaluation.

As per standard procedure, the Marion police officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave until the investigation concludes.
