In order to rescue the life of a woman whose flat was on fire, Marion firefighters had to get down on their hands and knees.
Just before 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, firefighters were dispatched to an apartment located in the 700 block of North Prospect Street due to reports of an incapacitated tenant who remained inside, as to the release.
Bystanders informed firemen that a woman was inside her apartment, which was actively on fire, and that they were unable to extricate her when the firefighters arrived.
According to the release, they entered the burning apartment without using a hose line for protection, considering it “a dangerous assignment that is only justified due to the presence of a confirmed victim.”
“Crawling on their hands and knees in zero visibility, they quickly located an unconscious female victim in a bedroom,” according to the release. After being hauled out, she was brought to the hospital, where her condition was stable but serious.
