MIAMI, Fla. — Port Miami is currently experiencing restricted vessel traffic due to a tragic boating accident.
The incident, which is being investigated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, has resulted in one fatality and another individual being hospitalized.
The United States Coast Guard issued a tweet at approximately 9:21 a.m., announcing the establishment of a security zone encompassing the Port Miami area.
As reported by CBS Miami, the accident occurred when a 30-foot-long vessel collided with a Fisher Island Ferry in the channel.
Upon arriving at the scene at around 3 a.m., Miami Fire Rescue discovered the situation. The ferry crew managed to rescue one victim, who was subsequently transported to Ryder Trauma in critical condition.
During transit to the hospital, the injured individual informed paramedics that their friend was still missing.
A search and rescue operation was initiated by the Miami Dive Team, with the involvement of multiple agencies.
Regrettably, the missing friend was found deceased at the accident site, according to CBS Miami.
