Orange County Hit by Preliminary 3.6-Magnitude Earthquake

Orange County was jolted by an estimated 3.6 earthquake on Thursday afternoon, the US Geological Survey reported.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of around 7.5 miles shortly before 5 p.m. The epicenter was located less than a mile and a half northeast of Newport Beach and around one mile southeast of Costa Mesa.

Five minutes or so later, another earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.4 was felt, according to USGS data.

People at Avalon on Catalina Island, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, and Fountain Valley said they felt the roller.

This week, Orange County has experienced two earthquakes.

The United States Geological Survey reports that at around 1:46 p.m. on Wednesday, a preliminary 2.6-magnitude earthquake occurred approximately 2 miles east of Newport Beach at a depth of approximately 7.7 miles.

There have been no indications of earthquake damage as of yet on Thursday.
