Oregon Law Enforcement Seizes Drugs and Money, Arrests 5 in Focused Mission

WPBN: During the course of a drug interdiction effort that took place on Wednesday evening, the Neighborhood Response Team of the Central Precinct of the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), which is comprised of the Bike Squad, was able to make arrests and seize both drugs and money.

Several arrests are made and drugs are seized by the Portland Police Department.

On Wednesday evening, the Portland Police Department set out on a targeted mission because of an increase in drug transactions and related issues about livability, particularly trash related to drug use.

In the vicinity of Goose Hollow, Old Town, the inner southeast, and the South Park Blocks, as well as Northwest Johnson and Kearney, the reaction team carried out a Drug Interdiction Mission. This mission focused on the areas between 14th and 16th Avenues.

A number of broader systemic challenges, including an inadequate supply of addiction services and an excessive supply of fentanyl that is linked to international trafficking organizations, are contributing factors to the problems that are occurring in the region.

Due to the fact that the PPB has been concentrating on illegal drug markets in the region for a considerable amount of time, the current mission is one of numerous others that encompass additional resources.

During the course of the operation, the police were able to confiscate a total of $710.10, 176.6 grams of meth, and 12.8 grams of fentanyl. The execution of four separate warrants was carried out, in addition to the arrest of one individual for PCS/DCS fentanyl and methamphetamine under federal charges.

In addition, the Portland Police Department issued the following:

  • In lieu of warrant arrests, there were two separate citations.
  • 2 Deflections
  • 3 Traffic Cites

The Public Protection Bureau (PPB) has acknowledged that they are currently engaged in more targeted enforcement actions, which include weekly missions carried out by bike squads to disrupt distribution networks in the general vicinity.

In addition, they are working with their federal counterparts to pursue prosecutions of higher-level offenders participating in the drug trade. This is being done in order to ensure that these individuals receive lengthier sentences and a greater degree of deterrent.

However, beginning on September 1, the department has also begun transporting individuals who are eligible for deferral to the Pathway Center, which provides addiction services, supportive housing, and mental health care. This is in addition to the enhanced enforcement of drug charges that has occurred since the implementation of HB 4002.
