The United States added multiple more medals to their Olympic-leading total of 37 on Friday following a strong Day 6 in which they brought home four golds.

With Sagen Maddalena collecting silver in the 50-meter rifle 3-position shooting final and Ian Barrows and Hans Henken taking bronze in the rowing skiff medal race, they got underway bright and early.

In the team final for equestrian jumping, the United States placed second, while they defeated India 6-2 in the bronze medal match for archery. Team USA persisted in swimming in the direction of victory.

Caeleb Dressel failed to defend his gold medals in the 50-meter freestyle, finishing sixth, and the 100-meter butterfly, failing to qualify after finishing fifth in the semifinals. Regan Smith won silver in the women’s 200-meter backstroke final.

In the men’s 10,000-meter final, Grant Fisher surprised everyone by winning the bronze with a time of 26:43.46, making history as the second American to medal in the race since 1964. As of Friday, the United States has won 43 medals overall in Paris, seven more than the host nation, France, with 36.

Nine gold medals are among them, trailing only Australia and France with eleven apiece. With 13 wins thus far, China is still in the lead in the gold race.

With the most medals ever won in the Summer Olympics, the United States headed into the 2024 Games. With 83 gold medals earned in 1984, one of the host nations while the Soviet Union led a boycott of the Los Angeles Games, the United States also holds the record for most gold medals won in a single games.

This year, such high totals are not likely to occur. America’s only goal in Paris is to replicate its triumph from three years prior, when it won 39 gold, 41 silver, and 33 bronze medals.
