Following a shooting at a BBQ in an upstate New York park, authorities reported that two ladies were murdered and five others injured.

Rifles were fired from numerous guns soon after 6 p.m. on Sunday, wounding hundreds of people, including children, in Rochester’s Maplewood Park, according to a press conference held by Rochester police.

Police confirmed on Monday that the five injured persons did not have life-threatening wounds.

According to authorities, Tyasia Manning, 25, and Phylicia Council, 34, died in the incident. As a public employee, Manning assisted youth in “becoming their best selves,” according to Rochester Mayor Malik Evans.

“These were innocent victims,” he stated.

“As I looked at that crime scene last night, I saw a stroller, people’s shoes. Our people, our residents, should be able to enjoy the summer in a park, period,” Evans stated. “But all too often, we have individuals in this community that are unmitigated cowards — that are OK with shooting women. And two of those women lost their life.”

“Maplewood Park is known for its beautiful views, beautiful events. … It should not be remembered by being a place that is marred by violence,” Evans stated.
