Arzu Rodney, who was 18, was arrested on Saint Anns Avenue in the Bronx. They also arrested a 16-year-old boy, whose name was not shared because he is a minor. Both have been accused of stealing.
On May 3, around 10 p.m., the first robbery happened in the South Bronx. A 40-year-old man left his 2011 black Mercedes-Benz stopped in front of 749 East 133 Street with the engine running. Four guys got into the car, which then took off. The plate number for this car is KWX7341.
Police said that the same group struck again two days later in Manhattan. Around midnight on May 5, a man of 66 stood in front of a laundry at 302 West 21 Street in Chelsea.
Four guys walked up to him and hit him all over with punches and kicks. While he was lying on the ground, the crew went through his pockets and took his iPhone and wallet with credit cards out.
The victim cut his left hand, but he didn’t want to get help at the spot.
Police say that the same group hit a store in the Garment District three hours after the first one. On May 5, around 3:30 a.m., three members of the crew went into the store at 584 8th Avenue.
One of the members walked up to the bar and made it look like he had a gun to the 23-year-old worker. Then the other two people went behind the bar and took out the things people use to smoke.
Police said that three of the defendants ran away, but one of them was later caught. Police showed surveillance video of the three still at large who were caught on camera inside the smoke shop.
