According to authorities, a driver lost his life during a police pursuit of a stolen car that began in North Carolina and crossed into South Carolina.
Over the weekend, further information about the Friday pursuit that originated in Rutherford County became available.
When the pursuit of the stolen car entered the Chesnee region, authorities became engaged, according to Lt. Kevin Bobo of the Spartanburg Sheriff’s Office.
The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office reported in a social media post that the stolen car was in an accident but kept going.
Bobo claimed that after using stop sticks on the pilfered car on Highway 11, two traffic deputies and Chesnee police officers were able to deflate one of the back tires.
The motorist shot himself before running off the road and getting into an accident, according to video evidence that a police officer saw, Bobo said.
According to him, police managed to extract the driver from the car and provided medical attention until emergency medical services could reach the location.

The incident took place in the Fingerville settlement, as reported by Rusty Clevenger, the Spartanburg County Coroner. He claimed that the driver was from Forest City, North Carolina’s Dewberry Hill.
Clevenger attested that the man committed suicide while driving, according to the autopsy reports. The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office has not disclosed any other details.
