Portland Park Incident Man Caught with Shotgun Hidden in Guitar Case

Police allegedly discovered a man carrying a cache of weapons, including a pump-action shotgun hidden in a guitar case, near the junction of Park Avenue and Jefferson Street at around 7 p.m. on May 15. The suspect was taken into custody in Portland’s South Park Blocks.

Layton Clark, 46, was detained by police when they noticed him in the park with a machete, according to the Portland Police Bureau Bike Squad.

The PPB Bike Squad posted on social media, “While officers spoke with the man, another officer noticed what appeared to be a shotgun barrel coming out of a guitar case . Possession of a weapon in a park when it’s a shotgun means you don’t pass go and don’t collect $200.”

Along with the other weapons discovered in Clark’s possession, the officers also allegedly discovered a second machete, a pocketknife, a hatchet, and a Sig Sauer handgun with the serial number scratched off.

On May 16, Clark was granted restricted freedom while being closely monitored.
