During a dispute over her usage of petrol, a 28-year-old man in Arkansas is accused of kicking his pregnant fiancée in the stomach, leading to his detention. One count of third-degree domestic abuse is brought against Justin James Coddington, according to court records.

A probable cause affidavit states that on May 27, 2024, at approximately 7:18 p.m., Baxter County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a home in the 40 block of Sunchase Court.

First responders spoke with the victim when they arrived at the scene, and she revealed that the argument started over “fuel use” between her and her boyfriend, whom she named as Coddington, according to police.

The victim reported to the authorities that Coddington then referred to their kids as “a profane name.” He allegedly shoved her back when she ordered him “not to speak like that about their children.” According to the complaint, the woman claimed that he followed the push “with a kick to her stomach.”

According to authorities, Coddington loaned a friend his and the victim’s automobile, which raised the issue of fuel consumption.

“When questioned, Coddington became angry and verbally abusive. Coddington made some derogatory remarks toward their children and (the victim) told him to stop, angering him more,” according to the affidavit. “(The victim) was behind Coddington walking toward the open door when he turned and pushed her. (The victim) said before she could regain her balance Coddington kicked her in the stomach. (The victim) has visible bruising on her lower stomach.”

The victim was taken by emergency medical personnel to a nearby hospital so that they may receive care.

The victim’s pelvic area was still protecting the fetus, and the fact that the child was still in a “young stage of development” was the “only thing” that prevented the child from suffering significant injuries, according to the doctor who examined her.

The woman had “visible bruising on her lower stomach” as a result of the kick, according to the police affidavit. Authorities accused Coddington of domestic abuse, a felony, after they claimed he purposefully hurt a woman he knew was pregnant.

After being taken to the Baxter County Detention Center, Coddington was allowed to leave after securing a $5,000 bond. Records indicate that he has entered a not guilty plea and that his trial over the battery charge is set for December 2024.

The victim requested that the court lift or alter the no-contact order so that Coddington may see her and their kids, according to an Ozark Radio News story. According to reports, the victim and Coddington were able to talk over the phone after the judge denied their plea for visitation.
