Authorities and officials reported that late on Wednesday, an armed suspect burst into the suburban Detroit house of a rabbi who was entertaining Jewish university students for a holiday dinner.
According to a press release from the Southfield Police Department, the male suspect—who is thought to be in his late teens or early 20s—entered the house in Southfield, Michigan through the back door.
Carrying a revolver, he had made the demand for the residents of the house to surrender their belongings.
The guy reportedly yelled, “I’m taking everything, give me everything,” according to the police, who labeled the event as “a crime of opportunity.”
“However, the investigation is ongoing,” it stated.
Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year, was being celebrated at a dinner hosted by the rabbi for University of Michigan students when the theft happened.
The suspect “stole a bag and fled,” according to a statement released by Santa J. Ono, president of the University of Michigan. The break-in happened just before 11 p.m.
“No one was injured and law enforcement officials with the Southfield Police Department are investigating this as a home invasion and a crime of opportunity,” he stated.
