In the Philadelphia area, Thanksgiving Day will be marked by two distinct weather patterns: rain in the morning and sun and wind in the afternoon.
Let’s get specific: After 3 a.m., scattered rains begin to form, giving Thanksgiving a soggy start. Through the early afternoon, there will probably be periods of cold, steady rain with totals ranging from half an inch to one inch.
The Poconos may get a snowfall or rain/snow mix, with 1 to 3 inches of slushy snow at the highest altitudes. Due to the effects of the rain on aviation and vehicle travel, a NEXT Weather Alert is in effect through midafternoon on Thanksgiving.
All around the region, Black Friday shopping will be cold but dry, with highs in the mid- to upper-forties. Canada brings in icy Arctic air on Friday night. The temperature will be the lowest of the season and the lowest since the previous winter.
This blast of chilly air has prompted a second NEXT Weather Alert for the weekend.
Saturday and Sunday will only see highs in the mid to upper 30s despite the sunshine, and the wind chill will be below freezing throughout the day.
Speaking about evenings, the city and the surrounding area will experience morning lows in the 20s.
Make sure the outdoor pipes are winterized, and provide any pets with a comfortable place to remain and non-freezing fresh water. They are also not accustomed to this cold, despite having warm fur.
On Sunday, December officially begins, marking the beginning of the Meteorological Winter.
With highs in the low 40s, next week is predicted to be sunny, cool, and dry. Any future modifications will be communicated to you by the NEXT Weather Team.
