RIVIERA BEACH — In the early hours of Sunday, a tragic accident occurred at an intersection in Riviera Beach involving a Riviera Beach Police officer on duty.
The officer, identified as Carl Johnson, was driving his 2022 Dodge Charger police cruiser southbound on Australian Avenue.
At the same time, a Hyundai Genesis G80 sedan was making a left turn onto West 13th Street from the opposite direction.
Regrettably, the police cruiser collided with the passenger’s side of the sedan, resulting in the deaths of the sedan’s driver and passenger.
Their identities have not been disclosed, as per the provisions of Marsy’s Law, which allows crime victims and their families to request anonymity in public reports.
Officer Johnson sustained serious injuries in the crash and was promptly transported to a local hospital for treatment.
No further details regarding his condition have been released at this time. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into the incident.
Both the Riviera Beach Public Information Officer, Brittany Collins, and the sheriff’s office have refrained from providing additional information or making any statements regarding the accident.
