Officials stated that a 34-year-old man who admitted guilt to creating child pornography while employed on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship was given a 30-year sentence in federal prison.

Stateroom attendant Arvin Joseph Mirasol of the Symphony of the Seas was sentenced on Wednesday in a federal court in Miami.

According to a news statement from the U.S. Department of Justice, Mirasol, a native of the Philippines, was taken into custody after a visitor reported to ship security on February 25 after finding a hidden camera in their toilet.

Authorities added that when Mirasol’s gadgets were checked by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers on March 3 after the ship arrived at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, they found many videos showing kids in various states of undress.

There was a video purportedly showing Mirasol setting up a camera in a visitor’s restroom.

According to the USDOJ, investigators found that Mirasol had been surreptitiously filming passengers since December 2023, including toddlers as young as two.

Investigators said he would sneak into guests’ rooms while they were taking showers and record them getting out of the shower by hiding beneath their mattresses.
