Over the weekend, a man from Utah was taken into custody on suspicion of killing a man who was being shot as he was leaving and then shooting the victim once more while he was already on the ground.
Farshad Baesmat Hassan-Pouri, 49, was taken into custody in relation to the shooting death of Gage Barrow, 30, for the purposes of investigating murder and the discharge of a firearm resulting in serious harm.
Salt Lake police were called to the 200 S. State neighborhood about 12:20 p.m. on Saturday in response to a complaint of several gunshots to a male.
According to a police booking affidavit, witnesses informed investigators that during an argument, Hassan-Pouri took a revolver out of his belt and started shooting at Barrow.
The affidavit states that investigators gathered surveillance footage from a nearby location that shows the man “walking away and distancing himself from (Hassan-Pouri) prior to the first shots being fired” and then “shows the victim running away after being shot at.”
Then Hassan-Pouri went after Barrow. According to the affidavit, Hassan-Pouri “is then seen standing over the victim and proceeded to fire multiple gunshots into the victim” after Barrow fell to the ground.

Hassan-Pouri was found by police, who then brought him to the Salt Lake City Police Department to be questioned. He reported to the investigators that Hassan-Pouri had advised him to keep away and that Barrow had been trash-talking him.
According to the affidavit, he claimed that Barrow kept saying things that got him “very angry,” which is what prompted Hassan-Pouri to shoot at the man many times, pursue him, and then shoot him again.
“(Hassan-Pouri) was asked if the victim had been a threat, (he) responded by saying that he couldn’t remember what the victim was doing,” as per the affidavit.
