Police are currently investigating two fatal accidents that took place in Brevard on Thursday.
In the morning, West Melbourne Police responded to a fatal crash on Minton Rd., just south of Wingate Boulevard. This incident involved a motorcycle and a school bus.
Later in the afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol initiated an investigation into another tragic event that claimed the life of a pedestrian. This incident occurred in the vicinity of U.S. 1 (State Road 5) at Burkholm Road in Mims.
According to reports, a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado was heading northbound on U.S. 1 in the outer lane, while a 2013 Ford Escape was stationary behind a passenger bus.
Law enforcement officials state that the driver of the Silverado failed to slow down for the parked vehicle and attempted to veer to the right.
However, the Silverado did make contact with the back of the Escape.
This collision resulted in the Silverado veering off the road to the right, ultimately striking a 62-year-old man. He was propelled into a street sign and pronounced deceased at the scene. Both drivers involved in the incident were unharmed and remained present at the scene.
