Shocking Dog Attack in Coachella Valley Results in Elderly Woman Losing Part of Arm

WPBN: According to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services, an old woman in the Coachella Valley was attacked by a dog, which resulted in her suffering significant injuries and, as a result, the loss of a portion of her arm.

When the event took place, the victim, a 76-year-old woman from Sinaloa, Mexico, was in Riverside County to see her family.

She had been out for her morning workout at the time of the assault. The assault took place on Saturday morning in the vicinity of the intersection of Thomas Avenue and Kay Road in the Desert Hot Springs neighborhood.

Over the course of around eight thirty minutes in the morning, two pit bull mixes made their escape from their owner’s yard by tunneling beneath the fence.

The woman was attacked by the dogs, which resulted in her suffering extensive damage to her arms and legs. A portion of her right arm had to be amputated since the cuts that she sustained were so serious that the medical personnel had no choice but to do so.

The woman is still undergoing care at the hospital as of Monday, despite the fact that medical intervention has been performed. She is still reported to be in severe condition.

The two canines who were involved in the incident were a male pit bull mix in his first year of life and a female pit bull mix in her fourth year of life. The Coachella Valley Animal Campus was responsible for the capture and subsequent euthanasia of both domesticated animals. It was observed by the authorities that none of the dogs had been spayed or neutered.

During the course of the investigation into the incident, it was discovered that the dog owner’s property was enclosed by a chain-link fence that was six feet in height.

“This victim was enjoying some holiday time with her family … then this horrific incident occurred,” Animal Services Interim Director Kim Youngberg stated.

It was determined that the fence was of an adequate height; nevertheless, it did not reach far enough into the ground to prevent the dogs from digging their way out of the area through the soft desert sand. It was because of this error that the dogs were able to escape, which ultimately resulted in the horrific assault.

John Welsh, who serves as a spokesperson for the Department of Animal Services, referred to the attack as a tragedy that is quite regrettable. Another officer, Annette Youngberg, underlined how very important it is for dog owners to take further steps in order to ensure the safety of their yards against attack.

She brought attention to the importance of maintaining alert in order to guarantee that pets are unable to flee and endanger other people.

This tragedy serves as a jarring reminder of the responsibilities that come with owning a pet as well as the possible dangers that can arise when preventative measures are not performed in a comprehensive manner.
