Southern California Braces for Weekend Rain – Here’s the Full Forecast

Although rain has been predicted for Southern California for the whole week, forecasters have been attempting to determine exactly how much and when it will fall over the past several days.

While it has been more difficult to forecast the effects further south, a low-pressure system will draw on an air river in the Pacific to bring several inches of rain and snow to Northern California and Oregon.

Forecasters have been able to obtain a better idea of what to expect as the storm approaches, but a ridge of high pressure to the east is also shielding southern California.

According to the National Weather Service’s forecast as of Thursday, a sequence of waves is expected to reach Southern California starting Friday night and continuing into Saturday morning.

Most of the region should see less than a quarter of an inch of rain from this initial onslaught, however certain parts of Ventura and Los Angeles counties may see more.

The Weather Service predicts that this initial wave of rain will peak between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday.

Forecasters predict that Sunday will be generally cloudy and dry, with showers expected to come later in the evening and last into Monday afternoon.

“Rainfall amounts for this system now look similar to the Friday night Saturday system: generally a quarter to an inch with locally higher amounts across the upslope areas,” according to the Weather Service.

At more than 8,000 feet, snow levels are predicted to stay relatively high. Forecasters are still unsure of how much rain the third wave will bring when it hits on Tuesday.

By Wednesday, the area should see a return to drier weather, according to Henry.
