ST. CLOUD, Fla. — A mother has been incarcerated following allegations that she strangled and caused the death of her own son.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office conducted a press briefing on Monday evening to address this tragic incident.
Sheriff Marcos R. Lopez reported that at approximately 7:30 a.m., deputies were dispatched to Crosley Avenue in St. Cloud. Upon arrival, they discovered an unresponsive 13-year-old boy lying face-up on a bed. Regrettably, he was pronounced deceased at the location.
A 911 call was made by a family member of the boy.
According to the sheriff’s office, 37-year-old Jasmin Kennedy spontaneously confessed to investigators about her involvement in her son’s death. Deputies noted that she admitted to choking him while he was on the bed.
Investigators stated that Kennedy was cooperating with the ongoing inquiry.
Kennedy has been formally charged with domestic battery by strangulation, child neglect, aggravated child abuse, and premeditated murder.
Sheriff Lopez conveyed his sorrow, stating, “Regardless of the manner in which it happens—be it a car accident, a homicide, or an illness—it is always a tragedy when someone so young is taken away. Waking up this Monday morning to this news feels like being struck by a heavy blow.
The loss of a young life, with all its yet-to-be-lived experiences, is profoundly impactful. This hits especially close to home, particularly for those of us with children.”
