Tampa Double Homicide: Man Arrested for Shooting Ex-Wife and Her New Partner

Tampa Double Homicide Man Arrested for Shooting Ex-Wife and Her New Partner

According to a court filing, a man who was taken into custody following a double-fatal shooting at an apartment complex in Tampa over the weekend told police that he had ambushed and shot both his ex-wife and a man she was dating because he was upset about things they had said about him.

When Tampa police responded to a shooting Saturday afternoon at the Trio at Encore apartments, which are located just north of downtown, they detained Robert Lee Craig-Webb, 65, on two counts of first-degree murder and armed burglary. Craig-Webb surrendered himself soon after the gunshot.

Eugenia Craig-Webb, 60, was one of the victims, named by Tampa police on Monday. She was married to Robert Craig-Webb for around 30 years before their divorce in 2021.

Detectives were still trying to get in touch with the family of the other victim, according to a police spokeswoman.

The Hillsborough State Attorney’s Office filed an application for pretrial detention, which provides additional details about the investigation and what Craig-Webb told officers when he was arrested.

However, an arrest affidavit was not available on Monday.

At 1:15 p.m., police were called to the apartment complex located on the 1100 block of Ray Charles Boulevard in reference to two shots that had been reported.

The deaths of Eugenia Craig-Webb and a man were discovered by officers on the floor of a passageway on the fourth floor. They had both been shot several times.

According to the motion, Robert Craig-Webb called a Tampa police officer and said, “I’m the shooter,” while the police were still on the scene. He carried a pistol with a.45 caliber.

According to the motion, a daughter of Robert and Eugenia Craig-Webb informed police that Robert was envious of Eugenia and that the couple had been married for a long period before separating. In the motion, the daughter is solely referred to as “Witness #1.”

According to court documents, Eugenia filed for divorce in 2021 after Robert and Eugenia were married in 1991.

According to the motion, the daughter told police that Robert stayed at the Encore apartment after the divorce because of a housing difficulty, and he left in August.

According to the daughter, Eugenia blocked Robert’s number on her phone since she didn’t want to be in contact with him.

Robert Craig-Webb was informed by the daughter on May 27 that Eugenia was seeing the man who would subsequently be discovered shot to death. The daughter phoned Eugenia at Robert’s request to find out why she was upset with him.

According to the motion, Eugenia told her daughter that “it was because of things Defendant did to her in the past, and she said that Defendant made (her) feel ill.”

The daughter reported to the police that she had spent the earlier part of Saturday with her husband and their four kids at the flat.

She received a call from Robert Craig-Webb’s sister while she was driving home, informing her that he had shot both her boyfriend and his ex-wife.

Robert acknowledged to officers that he had urged his daughter to phone her mother and find out why she was upset with him. According to Robert Craig-Webb, Eugenia informed his daughter that she detested him and didn’t give a damn if he was homeless.

Furthermore, according to Robert Craig-Webb, the man she was seeing was circulating a false impression of him, saying he had been dishonorably dismissed from the army.

While driving home, she got a call from Robert Craig-Webb’s sister, telling her that he had shot both her boyfriend and his ex-wife.

Robert admitted to the police that he had encouraged his daughter to call her mother to find out the reason behind her anger towards him. Robert Craig-Webb claims that Eugenia told his daughter that she hated him and didn’t care if he was homeless.

Furthermore, Robert Craig-Webb said that the man she was seeing was spreading a lie about him, claiming that he had been dishonorably discharged from the service.

Craig-Webb claimed he then proceeded to his vehicle, parked it on North Morgan Street, and made his way back to the apartment building to surrender.

Eugenia Craig-Webb and her boyfriend were seen leaving the flat with drinks in their hands, according to footage captured by the doorbell camera in the residence. On site, 11 spent.45-caliber shot casings were discovered by the police.

The son of Robert Craig-Webb, whose name is omitted from the motion, informed authorities that his father had threatened Eugenia’s life before and had been arrested in Tennessee for domestic abuse.
