More than a month after a dead baby was discovered in the Safe Haven Baby Box at the Grove Creek Medical Center in Blackfoot, an Idaho adolescent was taken into custody, according to the police.
On October 13, a medical team responded to an alarm alerting them that an infant had been placed in the medical center, and the newborn girl was taken out of the box “within a minute.”
However, according to a news release from Safe Haven Baby Boxes last month, it was found that the newborn had been dead for a long time when she was put in the baby box.
“The Safe Haven Baby Box is intended to safely and anonymously allow custodial parents to surrender a newborn under 30 days old without legal repercussions, provided the child is unharmed,” the Blackfoot Police Department stated. “Unfortunately, the placement of a harmed or deceased infant is not protected under this system or Idaho law.”
After an inquiry, internet records show that 18-year-old Twin Falls resident Angel N. Newberry was taken into custody Thursday for neglecting to notify the coroner and law enforcement of a death.
The teenager was arrested and taken to the Bingham County Jail.
