An investigation is underway by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office into a fatal shooting that took place on Saturday night outside the Citrus Park Town Center Mall in the Tampa area.
A 911 report regarding gunfire outside the mall was received by HCSO shortly after 7:00 p.m. Peter Hyman had an upper body gunshot wound when deputies arrived on the scene. Reports state that he was admitted to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he passed away.
In an attempt to determine who was responsible for the shooting, detectives claim to have spoken with a number of witnesses. Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer stated that two individuals were taken into custody.
A brawl broke out as the party was eating, according to authorities.
“I don’t know if they knew each other. I knew that they were eating, and a fight broke out. I don’t know exactly the nature of that. Our detectives are getting to the bottom of that,” Maurer stated.

Hyman was shot, according to investigators, just outside Red Robin’s main entrance.
“This senseless act of violence not only robbed a family of their loved one but caused unnecessary fear and trauma to dozens of people who were just trying to enjoy their Saturday night at the mall,” Sheriff Chad Chronister stated. “Our detectives are using every resource available to hold those responsible for this tragedy accountable.”
There is an active and continuing investigation.3
