Reports state that a teenager from Colorado passed away after jumping into an electric lake to celebrate the Fourth of July.

Friends saw something was amiss right away after 18-year-old Jesse Hamric dove into the water at Smith Mountain Lake, which is outside of Roanoke, Virginia, early on Thursday morning.

Following Hamric into the water, the pals experienced a sense of shock as they dove in. They were able to remove Hamric despite their own injuries, according to WDBJ.

While another friend called for assistance, one of the friends started CPR on Hamric.

When rescue workers came around 4 a.m., they took Hamric to the hospital, where he eventually passed away. His two pals were slightly hurt.

Following a fire department examination that found electrical currents in the water where the teen died, police concluded that the cause was stray voltage that had migrated from a nearby private residence’s pier.

There is no suspicion of foul play in the death. Hamric, a native of Steamboat Springs, and his family were visiting friends when the strange incident occurred.

He had just received his high school diploma in May, having played baseball and football with distinction.

“Ever since I first met that kid, I mean, he’s like one of a kind,” friend Alex Schwab stated . “You see him and you just, like, he always has a smile on his face.”

“Still can’t even like process it. I’m so upset by it,’ he continued.
