SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. – Temporary road closures have been implemented near Southwest 137th Avenue in the Southwest Miami-Dade area following a fatal crash on US-1.
On Tuesday at approximately 4:40 a.m., Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers were called to the scene on the northbound lanes of US-1 close to 137th Avenue, near Homestead. They discovered a black scooter with a deceased passenger.
According to officials, a box truck was traveling north on US-1 and failed to notice the presence of the black scooter ahead. Consequently, the truck collided with the rear of the moped at the intersection of Southwest 137th Avenue.
The impact of the collision caused the passenger to be thrown off the scooter. The scooter’s driver sustained only minor injuries and received treatment at the scene.
The driver of the box truck emerged from the incident unharmed.
To facilitate the necessary investigations and clean-up, the northbound lanes of US-1 in the vicinity of Southwest 137th Avenue were initially closed but have now been reopened.
