Authorities intercepted a semi-trailer truck attempting to transport over $31 million in meth across the US-Mexico border in Texas, discovering the hidden stash of drugs cleverly disguised within a load of green peppers.

A surprising find occurred when border patrol carried out a standard check of a vehicle that tried to cross into the country at the Pharr International Bridge from Mexico on Sunday, as reported by the US Customs and Border Protection.

Officers discovered 1,859 bundles of meth concealed in green packaging within a shipment of serrano peppers, thanks to x-ray imaging devices.

“Our CBP officers continue to remain vigilant and intercepted this massive methamphetamine load, preventing it from reaching American streets,” Port Director Carolos Rodriguez said.

Authorities reported that the seized drugs totaled 2,155 pounds, carrying an estimated street value of $31,169,000.

Officials reported that the Office of Field Operations confiscated the stash of drugs along with the vehicle.

Details regarding the smuggler remain undisclosed by authorities.

Homeland Security has started a criminal investigation into the matter.
