Three people were slain, including rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson of the Minnesota Vikings, when their automobile was struck by another vehicle “moving at a high rate of speed,” according to Maryland police. He was 24 years old.

Three vehicles were involved in the collision, which happened in Prince George’s County just before 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, according to a news release from state police.

Jackson was riding with two people, identified as Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton, 24, in the front passenger seat of a maroon Dodge Charger.

According to authorities, Hazel, the driver, and Jackson passed away at the site. After being brought to the hospital, Lytton was eventually declared deceased.

According to the news release, the collision happened when a silver Infiniti heading north on Route 4 tried to change lanes. Cori Clingman, the driver, was reportedly “driving at a high rate of speed,” according to the police, and she hit the Charger before hitting a Chevrolet Impala.

The Charger was thrown off the road by the force of the collision, hitting many tree stumps before coming to a rest.

According to authorities, Clingman, 23, and the other two Infiniti occupants were unharmed. Additionally unharmed, the Impala’s driver declined on-site medical attention.

The news of Jackson’s passing “absolutely crushed” Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell, who expressed that he was “at a loss for words.”

“Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and our team,” O’Connell stated on X. “His confidence and engaging personality immediately drew his teammates to him. In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player, but what was more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him.”

Upper Marlboro, Maryland native Jackson was selected by the Vikings in the fourth round of the NFL draft in April. Jackson started as a cornerback at the University of Oregon. As to a social media post by the school’s athletic department, he went to Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School alongside Hazel and Lytton.

Additional tributes kept coming in on Saturday.

Jackson was “taking steps to become the best version of himself,” according to general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, and his “personality captured every room he was in.”

“I’m devastated that his life and everything that he had in front of him has been cut short,” Adofo-Mensah stated.

“RIP Khyree,” Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning wrote on X. Many thanks, @Real_Khyree. lacking the right words. Your grin will be missed. Fantastic player, even better guy.
