A man was shot and killed by police on Tuesday outside the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, the site of the Republican National Convention.

The incident was verified by the Columbus Division of Police, who also stated that it did not appear to be connected to the convention, even though it occurred “in the outer perimeter of the RNC.”

Approximately two miles from the Fiserv Forum, the incident took place just after 1:00 p.m. close to 13th Street and West Vliet Street.

13 uniformed Columbus police officers from Ohio were given the task of bike patrol in their designated zone, according to Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman during a press conference.

According to Norman, the officer saw a person fighting with another person while holding a knife in each hand.

The guy ignored the cops’ repeated orders to put down the knife and charged at the other person while brandishing the blades.

According to Norman, the subject was hit by officers who then fired their weapons. The man lived in a nearby homeless camp, according to one witness. The witness confirmed the police officer’s statement, stating that at the time of the shooting, he was holding a knife.

Two knives, according to the police, were found at the site.

“This unfolded. Somebody’s life was in immediate danger. Two knives were recovered from this situation. Someone’s life was in danger. These officers not from this area took upon themselves to act to save someone’s life,” Norman stated.

Some of the protesters became enraged and attacked the RNC for sending out-of-town police into their community after learning that the deceased had been shot by outside policemen.

“It is notable that the Columbus Ohio Police Department was present at our protest, putting themselves out there as supposed peacekeepers. It feels obvious to say that killing people, carrying weapons, is not a part of peacekeeping. It is also notable that the Milwaukee Police Department said they would keep outside agencies away from the broader Milwaukee community, which they failed to do,” the Colilation to March on the RNC stated.

Norman affirmed that during the altercation, no policemen were struck or hurt.

This coincides with former President Donald Trump’s appeal to reduce violence in Milwaukee and the Republican National Convention’s theme of “Make America Safe Again” on Tuesday.
