This week, a family beach excursion turned into a horrific nightmare when a young girl was slain by a collapsed hole that was dug on a South Florida beach and buried alive.
A huge hole they were excavating, roughly six feet below, crashed in on a seven-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl, trapping them behind a mountain of sand. Pompano Fire Rescue responded to the call just before 4 PM on Tuesday.
Unbelievable cell phone film that NBC6 showed appeared to capture the aftermath of the horrific experience, showing beachgoers rushing to the children’s aid and making an effort to dig them out.
While some attempted to prop up the walls to keep the kids from getting any deeper buried, others went down on their hands and knees to remove the sand off the kids. A sizable throng of spectators gaped in shock when support boards were employed in the rescue operation.
The female was completely drowned in the sand, and the kid was apparently buried up to his chest. According to CBS, the girl passed away before the boy could be evacuated from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Beach to a hospital where he is currently recovering in stable condition.
How long they were buried is unknown, however it seems like it took some time to extricate them.
According to local media, authorities are looking into the children’s relationship and whether or not they are local kids.
Although it may sound strange, these sand burials occur quite frequently. By the time first responders arrived, according to reports, the girl had stopped breathing.
Although they don’t always result in death, it’s obvious that they can be fatal. This situation is still being looked into.
