BOYNTON BEACH — A tragic incident occurred in suburban Boynton Beach where a teenager lost his life when an SUV collided with his bicycle on Wednesday evening.
The victim, 13-year-old Blake Buchbinder, was riding his bicycle across a crosswalk at the intersection of Boynton Beach Boulevard and Lyons Road. According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, he was crossing against the traffic signals.
As per the report, Buchbinder was heading north when he crossed in front of a westbound Ford Escape on Boynton Beach Boulevard. The collision was severe, resulting in the teenager being pronounced dead at 5:52 p.m.
The following day, an online fundraiser was initiated to support Buchbinder’s family. Surprisingly, it managed to raise over $45,000 within a span of just seven hours.
The organizer of the GoFundMe campaign described Blake as someone who had a positive impact on others with his contagious laughter, sense of humor, kindness, and love for life and sports.
The sheriff’s report does not mention any pending charges against the 61-year-old female driver of the Escape from Okeechobee. She was wearing a seat belt, and there is no evidence suggesting that she was under the influence of any substances at the time of the accident, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Unfortunately, the report does not provide information regarding the speed at which the Escape was traveling during the collision.
