Tragic Loss: Premature Baby Girl Saved from Mother's Womb Passes Away in Gaza

According to her uncle on Friday, a premature Palestinian baby who was saved from her mother’s womb just after the wife was slain in an Israeli airstrike, has passed away.

According to her uncle Rami al-Sheikh, Sabreen Jouda passed away in a Gaza hospital on Thursday after her condition worsened and medical personnel were unable to rescue her.

Just before midnight on Saturday, there was an Israeli airstrike on Sabreen’s home in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Her sibling, 4, and her parents perished.

Her mother, Sabreen al-Sakani, who was thirty weeks pregnant, had an emergency cesarean section performed on her by medical professionals after first responders transported the remains to a neighboring hospital. The baby was held in an incubator at a different hospital’s newborn intensive care unit until she passed away five days later.

When counting, the health professionals do not distinguish between soldiers and civilians.

Israel responded to the militants’ attack on southern Israel on October 7 by declaring war on Hamas and launching a crushing air and ground offensive in Gaza. In Israel, the militants claimed 1,200 lives and kidnapped another 250.

Over 50% of Gaza’s population, estimated at 2.3 million, has taken sanctuary in Rafah, where Israel has been conducting raids almost every day in anticipation of a potential attack on the city.
