A shooting in a busy Near North Side neighborhood on Friday afternoon injured a man and an adolescent kid.

According to the police, at 4:43 p.m., a person approached the 16-year-old child and the 23-year-old man, pulled out a handgun, and shot them both.

Both of the victims, who had been shot in the arm, were transported in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Shell casings and evidence markers were visible in the street, and crime scene tape had been strung up at the crossroads.

Later, despite rumors that a person of interest in the killing may have escaped on a Chicago Transit Authority Red Line train traveling south, officers were spotted at the intersection of Roosevelt Road and State Street. A person of interest was brought to Belmont Area Headquarters, according to the police, to be questioned.

At the intersection of Chicago and Wabash avenues are the following locations: the northwest corner of the intersection is home to a Chick-fil-A; on the northeast corner is the Victorian-Gothic Hotel St. Benedict Flats, which dates from 1882; on the southeast corner is Pippin’s Tavern, located on the ground floor of the high-rise The Bernardin Apartments; and on the southwest corner is the Bishop Quarter House next to Holy Name Cathedral.

The famous Chicago Water Tower and the Magnificent Mile are both just a short distance west of the intersection. Additionally, it is situated partially a block east of a McDonald’s at Chicago Avenue and State Street, the scene of a mass shooting in May 2022 that left two people dead and seven injured.
