WPBN: This week, portions of Alabama are expected to experience temperatures that are as low as the upper teens, according to the forecast. Relief organizations have opened warming stations from the Tennessee Valley to the Gulf coast as a result of this factor.
Participants in the project include the Jimmie Hale Mission in Birmingham, the Compassion Coalition in Tuscaloosa, and the Salvation Army in Decatur.
The Mobile area is seeing the opening of a half dozen new churches, one of which is the Central Presbyterian Church, which caters to families.
Both men and women are welcome to visit McKemie Place, which is located within the Salvation Army. It is estimated that close to twenty additional warming stations will be opening in the counties of Etowah and Cullman.

In Kansas and Missouri, where blizzard conditions produced wind gusts of up to 45 miles per hour, the National Weather Service issued their winter storm warnings.
In the early hours of Tuesday, the warnings were extended to include New Jersey.
