Formerly known as Food Stamps, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) assists individuals in purchasing the food they require to be healthy. Those who receive this benefit can buy seeds and garden plants in addition to food.

The Texas Simplified Application Project (TSAP), which streamlines the application process and offers three years of benefits rather than the customary six months, is open to families with senior persons (60 years of age or older) or those with disabilities.

These pertain to those who live in qualifying low-income households; for instance, those who are 18 to 52 years old and childless are only eligible for three months of SNAP benefits over a three-year period.

Each state manages this program independently, but it comes from the federal government and enables low-income families to purchase basic foods like fruits, vegetables, meat, dairy products, bread, cereals, and non-alcoholic beverages, as well as the seeds and plants mentioned above that produce food.

However, non-food goods including alcohol, tobacco, vitamins, supplements, pet food, and hot cooked foods that are sold in stores are not eligible for SNAP benefits.

A SNAP-eligible person or family is issued an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card, also called the Lone Star Card in Texas, which functions similarly to a debit card and can be used to buy qualified food at authorized stores.

The quantity of benefits, which are loaded monthly, is determined by household size, income, and expenses.

In Texas, who will get their SNAP benefits this week?
