Windy Weather Expected Tonight in Western WA, Rainy Weekend Ahead

It is anticipated that a Pacific storm will pass over Washington, bringing with it heavy rain and wind. The weather system is predicted to arrive Tuesday evening and bring gusty winds and rainy conditions to western Washington, according to the National Weather Service in Seattle.

A wind advisory is in force for western Washington, and wind gusts of 40 to 45 miles per hour are predicted for the city of Tacoma.

Up to the early hours of Wednesday morning, this alert will be in effect. These “breezy winds” will climax overnight, resulting in potentially dangerous conditions, according to a Weather Service briefing that was last updated at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

In the South Puget Sound lowlands, the storm’s associated rainfall is predicted to last at least through the weekend.

Notable locations in this region include Olympia, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Tacoma, and Puyallup. Strong winds are expected to accompany Tuesday night’s initial bout of rain, but more windy conditions are likely later in the week, especially on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Power Outages and Preparedness

In anticipation of possible power interruptions in its service area as a result of the storm, Puget Sound Energy has taken precautions. At 5:10 p.m. on Tuesday, the electric company warned consumers about the possibility of “damaging winds” starting that evening on the social media site X (previously Twitter).

On its website, Puget Sound Energy has also posted information about the storm and storm safety advice. The utility will update its outage map, which includes projected restoration times for impacted areas, in the case of a power loss.

The storm will continue to be tracked by the National Weather Service, which will offer updates as needed. Residents are urged to pay attention to any advisories or warnings given by local authorities and to stay updated on any changes in the weather.

“Our crews are ready to deploy with assignments when outages occur, as soon as it’s safe to to do so,” according to the post. “As we prepare for storm conditions, we encourage customers to do the same.”

In addition, Tacoma Public Utilities issued a post on X around four o’clock in the afternoon advising residents to get ready for the wind alert.

In addition to receiving safety advice on their website, customers can use MyTPU.org/OutageMap to report power outages and receive information on the progress of restoration activities.
