WPBN: In relation to Monday’s collision that claimed two lives and injured three more, a 38-year-old woman is charged with two counts of criminal vehicular murder.
Teniki Steward, the woman, is also accused of two counts of criminal vehicular operation resulting in grave bodily harm, per the criminal complaint that was submitted to the court on Friday.
The collision occurred at the junction of 26th Avenue North and Emerson Avenue North.
Steward was charged with speeding on Emerson Avenue North in a Buick Enclave, running a red light, and colliding with a Ford Explorer at the junction.
The Explorer veered off the road and struck a Metro Transit bus shelter due to the intensity of the crash. According to allegations, one of the Explorer’s passengers passed away in the hospital and the driver perished at the spot.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victims as Rose Elaine Reece, 57, and Esther Jean Fulks, 53. Minneapolis was the hometown of both women.
Sam Morningstar, a Minneapolis resident who worked with Fulks, claimed that both she and Reece were very beneficial to the neighborhood.
“Esther worked with a lot of families and people who came into the building,” Morningstar stated. “These were our folks. Right now, we’re all in shock and are merely attempting to recover.”
A 17-year-old teenager who was standing on the sidewalk close to the bus shelter was treated for a broken collarbone at the hospital.
A man riding in the Enclave and the Steward were also transported to the hospital. According to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, Minneapolis resident Steward is being held.
Speed is a common issue in the region, according to locals who live close to where the collision occurred.
Mike Malm, a resident of north Minneapolis, stated, “They’re going way too fast and then they hit the brakes and they go right through.”
In a written statement released Friday, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty stated, “This was another totally preventable incident of a car being driven irresponsibly with disastrous consequences.”

Recalling Esther and Rose
In addition to embracing and accepting the loss of Reece and Fulks, family and community members are also reflecting on the influence they had on others.
According to Drakkar Lobley, Reece’s son, “Everyone got a good story about my mom, everybody.” “My mother has contributed significantly to the community. She has been a huge source of support for many individuals, not just me.
According to her family, Reece was honored for her leadership and community engagement, and she was a symbol of unselfish service. Fulks, a mother of four and well-known community figure, was renowned in Hennepin County for her diligent work ethic.
“Esther worked with a lot of families and people who actually came into the buildings and so a lot of people know Esther and Rose,” said Sam Morningstar.

As they rely on one another to get through this tragedy, they are choosing to embrace community in spite of the loss.
“I don’t have no real hate for this lady in my heart,” Lobley stated.
“We forgive the other family too,” Reece and Fulks’ nephew Kip Van Trease stated. “Our family is that. The Northside community is united as a single entity.
